As they say on the internet: “Thread”.
4 female delegates from AFC ExCo contested, 2 later withdrew leaving Moya and Mahfuza to battle it out. Aus/Bdesh have no male ExCo member.

With other heavyweights in Asia having male members in AFC ExCo would have meant stepping down if female member from their country had won.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
Japan, Korea, China, Qatar, Iran, UAE, Saudi, India, Uzbekistan had male AFC Exco members. They wouldn’t want step down for a female member.

Mahfuza seemed like best bet for many in Asia to challenge Moya, South Asia had 3 male AFC ExCo members and the region would back her.

Australia’s presence in AFC politics is not that much which clearly showed in Moya’s defeat. But Bangladesh is s football minnow.Politics eh
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
If men ended up with unopposed election, why did Moya face tough challenge? Why others withdrew at last mine from women’s race?
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
Could Moya have also contested the main seat once it became clear the others were gonna win unopposed?
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
Pretty clear they wanted Moya out and wanted someone less outspoken, sadly they got someone who knows far less about football too.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
Moya however still on AFC ExCo and hopefully carries on the good work she does for Asia at least if not for rest of the world.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
What a rise for Mahfuza though, from nowhere made it into BFF, then AFC ExCo and now to FIFA Council, $350k salary from 2 jobs.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
The backlash happened. Australia openly voted against Sheikh Salman despite being AFC member. Moya paid the price. https://t.co/1P08Kmv3kc

Australia still seen as an outsider, far away from the continent, FFA sometime more in sync with Western Hemisphere on governance issues.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
Lets not forget the email dump to Sunday Times which exposed many in Asian football came from an Australian football official.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
Some indication that religion may also have played a part for Mahfuza getting the Arab bloc votes. South Asia totally supported Mahfuza.
— FootballPakistan.com (@FootballPak) May 8, 2017
In the end South Asia needed representation, 1.5b people now have a voice, East Asia 3, Southeast Asia 2, West 1, now South 1 seat a piece.

Obviously, if you have some interest in the Asian Football Confederation, you should probably follow @FootballPak.
You’re welcome.
